Creative Digital Media

The Creative Digital Media degree has been running for over ten years now and is a leader in its field, having established a strong reputation within industry for providing graduates with the professional skills relevant to current and future job markets.Creatively challenging and academically rewarding, this programme delivers an exciting range of media-related modules. Mary Hanafin Practical modules and specialist workshops encompass Digital Video, Interactive Multimedia, Photography and Radio Production. Project work by students in these areas includes the production of short dramas, documentaries and music videos, as well as 2D and 3D animations, web design and photographic portfolios. Students on the programme have access to fully equipped professional studios, edit suits, digital production labs, portable cameras and recording kits.

This aspect of the course is complimented and informed by theory and business modules. Subjects studied include Screen Studies, Media Politics, Media Law and Culture and Technology. Here students are encouraged to critically examine how the media is influenced by and impacts on the world around us.

Added features of the course are the student radio station ITTFM, the annual Degree Show exhibition and the Erasmus European exchange programme. We regularly enter student work for various media competitions and some recent successes include winner of the Oxygen student media award for best short film, and a BCI award for our campus radio station. Student work has been screened throughout the country on many occasions, for example at the Galway Film Fleadh, the Darklight Festival and the Digital Media Awards.

Graduates have gone on to work throughout regional, national and international media and cultural industries, including RTE, Windmill LAne, TG4, Newstalk 106, British Eurosport and The Gallery of Photography. Many graduates have gone on to complete postgraduate studies in related disciplines as diverse as globalization, documentary photography, journalism and advertising.  

The course was nominated in the 3rd level section of the prestigious Digital Media Awards in 2005.
