Partnership with Europe

The European Connection
For over 10 years now, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at ITT Dublin has placed engineering students in the world renowned Fraunhofer Gesellschaft Research Institute in Germany. Each year up to five students are placed for a period of twelve months in Braunschweig, one of the Fraunhofer’s research sites. The Fraunhofer Gesellschaft undertakes applied research to private and public enterprises. Students are placed under the supervision of engineers and engage in research associated with friction reduction, electrical and optical coatings, adhesive and anti-adhesive coatings. After completing the work placement, students can continue their studies in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in ITT Dublin. www.ist.fraunhofer.de

Group1 Student Exchange in Europe
The Mechanical Engineering Department has many partner institutes in Europe. European students come to study in the Institute of Technology Tallaght, Dublin and our students travel to Europe to study engineering with the added advantage of acquiring a European language. European partner institutes are located in Germany, France, Finland and Spain.

Annual Trip to Germany - FEA
Students in the fourth year of the Honours Degree course get the opportunity to travel to Germany as part of their Engineering Design studies. They visit a similar Institute and participate in a course that involves using computer simulation to study the performance of components under stress. Working with students from countries such as Norway and Finland, as well as with German students, they use Finite Element Analysis software under expert guidance. As well as enjoying the social side of the trip, students return with confidence in their ability to choose more interesting projects for their final year.
