About the Course

This four year programme provides you with the skills and knowledge to manage Information Technology infrastructure. In the modern world nearly every business is dependent on its use of information technology for its survival. Whether its sending txts or downloading music, banking or health systems, business or industry all these organisations and activities need information technology professionals to manage, plan and upgrade their IT systems.

Over the course of this programme you will obtain an excellent knowledge of information systems, networking, web and multimedia development as well as business and management knowledge. This combination of real technical knowledge allied to business and management skills is highly sought after in the marketplace.

What do I Need?

Entry Requirements for the Bachelor Degree in Science Degree (Computing)
Leaving Certificate with a minimum of Grade C3 in two Higher Level subjects, and a minimum of Grade D3 (Ordinary Level) in 4 other subjects in the Leaving Certificate Examination, which must include Mathematics and English or Irish.
No previous, serious computing experience required
Students needn’t arrive as computer whiz-kids. They learn to become experts with us!
Recent minimum CAO points: 225

Career Opportunities

The range of careers open to you include database manager, web developer, e-business consultant, network manager, systems support engineer. The role of chief information officer (CIO), IT manager or business consultant is a substantial, interesting andrewarding one in most businesses and these are the career paths which this programme opens for you. It is important to note that IT professionals often work as part of a team, make presentations and are called on to give advice on new and emerging technologies.  Two thirds of graduates report promotion within two years of taking up employment and many graduates find an open door with the company where they carried out their work placement.

I graduated from the college in 1997 with a First Class Honours Degree in Computing. I went on to pursue a career in I.T, concentrating on leading financial institutions based in Dublin. Projects I have worked on include Banking365 and Banking 365 Plus (web-based service). I now work as an IT consultant in the banking sector. The work is interesting, challenging and rewarding.

niall_roche Niall Roche Software Developer Mobile Aware
Niall obtained his B.Sc. (Hons) in 2001 and his M.Sc. in 2004. My M.Sc. project was based on a research collaboration between IT Tallaght and mobile technology development company Mobile Aware. I now work as a developer for MobileAware. My job takes me around the world talking to clients in the Far East, Europe and America.
