ITT Dublin has a growing population of postgraduate students. The Careers & Appointments Officer provides information on careers for students and specialist help in finding employment opportunities.

The Careers Service is available to you throughout your time here in ITT Dublin. You will be able to seek information and advice on issues relating to career choice, further studies and/or employment opportunities. This service will be of particular benefit to final year students.

Career Planning Workshop for Postgraduate Students:
Purpose: to assist Postgraduate students in adopting a proactive approach to career planning.  Provide guidance in how to make the right career choice for your personality and interests and to give them the job search tools, CV writing skills and interviewing skills to make that happen.

I  Self Assessment   (approx 30mins)

Gathering information about yourself to make informed career decisions.  Before you start looking at career options it is crucial to examine what you really want to do.  Take some time to examine your values, interests, personality, skills and motivations.  A short self assessment exercise will be offered.

Networking – your most important job search tool – how to do it well
The employers labour market – how it works
Recruitment agencies – how to make them work for you
How to get a competitive edge
Learning from job application rejections
Sources of vacancies; industry and academic
III. Getting your CV ready  (approx 20-30mins)

What it the purpose of your CV?
Your CV is you, until you can get into the interview room
Suggested layouts
Writing an effective CV for a career in academia
Writing an effective CV for a career outside academia or in industry
Marketing yourself
Making yourself  attractive to employers
Transferable nature of research skills to work environments
Making all work experience relevant to the job you are applying for
IV.Interview Skills  (approx 1 hour allowing for some breakout groups to practise competency based interviewing)
