Supports for Full-time Mature Students

(1) The Grant  The Grant is means-tested on the previous tax year, with the upper income limit currently set at €51,380 where there are 3 or less dependent children in the household.  Applications are made through your local VEC.  The Grant consists of two elements: the Student Services Fee, and Maintenance.  Students on BTEA can apply for the Student Services Charge element of the Grant, but not for the Maintenance element.

(2)The Back to Education Allowance is available to individuals who have been in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance / other eligible Dept. of Social & Family Affairs payment for a minimum of 9 months.  It allows the student to continue to receive a weekly DSFA payment during their studies, and also pays an annual €500 Cost of Education allowance.  Apply to your local DSFA office.

(3) The Student Assistance Fund is available for disadvantaged students who run into financial difficulties.  Support is available for the cost of Books, Transport, Rent, Heat Light & Food, and Medical/Dental expenses.  Applications are made through the College after the courses start.
