BPNR - Events Hosted

The annual BioNet conference is a showcase of R&D in research institutions in Ireland that brings together life scientists from educational, research institutes and industry with a view to highlighting collaboration potential. The third BioNet Conference, took place on 18th & 19th January, 2006 in ITT Dublin (Institute of Technology, Tallaght). BPNR members Mary Costello, John Behan and Siobhan McClean were on the National Organizing Committee for this conference.

AWARD WINNERS  The conference was a huge success with over 180 delegates attending. The conference theme this year was ‘The Biotechnology Showcase’ and the title perfectly summed up the array and quality of research presented and displayed over the two days.

The special session, Health for Life, which was open to the public had a full house, and it provided lively debate on the topical issues of obesity; healthy eating; heart disease; cancer etc and the panellists, Professors Pat Wall, Colm O'Morain and Ian Graham gave excellent presentations on their expert areas. Similarly the Critical Path Research session proved a big success, with Dr Tracy Keane, IMB and Derval O'Carroll leading out an excellent panel discussion with industry representatives.
